Go LAKERS! LAHH takes in a game. |

Stephen graduated as the
Vacuum Specialist |
On December 31st, LAHH graduated three
young, outstanding men in their specialty. Brandon
graduated as the Restroom Specialist, Paul graduated as
the Lite Duty Specialist, and Stephen graduated as the
Vacuum Specialist. All three men had shown above average
knowledge of their specialty during the two days of
exams.
The two days of exams consisted of oral and written
testing as well each man had to demonstrate the proper
usage of their equipment under Guido's review.
The families and friends of our employees were able to
make it giving us a crowd of about fifteen people. Tears
were shed and joyous laughter was heard as Guido
remarked on the journey that we had all undertaken four
weeks earlier.
The journey of Boot Camp began with Guido teaching us
that Janus, a Roman God, whose dual face image could be
found above doorways, was the first custodian meaning
that he protected the city and the family. We learned
that as custodians we are protecting our health and the
health of the occupants of the building we are cleaning.
Furthermore, we learned that we clean for health first
and foremost. Health is a state of complete physical,
mental, social well being and not merely the absence of
disease and infirmity. We learned to clean means
to remove the unwanted matter and put it in its proper
place. During Boot Camp, we used video, overhead slides,
discussion, hands-on exercises to understand the process
of our (OS1) cleaning system. We learned that (OS1), the
premier green cleaning system, allows us to document and
demonstrate source reduction, reduction of inventory,
improved IAQ, reduced absenteeism, improved safety which
meets and exceeds HAZCOM law and reduced chemical usage.

Paul with Guido and Nancy |
Guido commented that Stephen was the
best performer in wrapping up the "pig tail cord" which
is used with the Bac Pac Vac. Brandon gave the same care,
as a Doctor when entering the operating room, upon
tackling the restroom. Paul was the best performer of
the "condie knot" which is used to secure the liner
inside the barrel so it does not fall down when unwanted
matter is put inside.
We are so happy and thankful for each of
our employees' talents and abilities that make this team
stronger!
Congratulations graduates!

Brandon with Guido |
"To work for LAHH, is unifying. We
work as a team, a well oiled machine. When we talk about
family, LAHH is like a family as Guido and Nancy know
and mean what they say. Working under Guido's tutelage
and supervision is good for me. Thank you guys for
giving me a chance. As the Restroom specialists, I make
sure that the chrome has no finger prints, not too much
water. Nancy is a good assistant team coach. I have
fun."
-Brandon Osborne, Restroom Specialist, LAHH.

GO Lakers!! |

Brandon,
Stephen, Paul, Nancy and Guido |
The big surprise at the (OS1) Graduation for
everyone, even the friends and family, was that
Friends of LAHH had donated to us tickets to watch
the LA Lakers taken on the Utah Jazz on the Friday
night following the graduation!
The night started after successfully finishing the
MSDS certification with pizza and soda. We piled
into Guido's car and headed into downtown Los
Angeles with the lights of the city and the Staples
Center ablaze. Inside the car, team strategies and
locker room talk ensued and bets were made as to how
many points Kobe Bryant, power forward and MVP 08,
would score.

Serious Laker Fans - Brandon,
Stephen, Paul and Guido |
Upon finding our seats as the lights went down and
the starting five were introduced, we all began
cheering for the Lakers and watched them go to
victory! It was a fun night that we will not soon
forget.

Game Day. (gām dey) - noun.
a. The name given to the day by the LAHH Team when
janitorial services are provided at the customer site
following the rules of (OS1) Boot Camp.
Professional sports teams have rituals that religiously
keep before each game. And so it is at LAHH. Before each
day, we huddle together, faces down, arms linked over
each other's back, Coach Piccarolo giving final
instructions, swaying back and forth, before the final
chorus of L-A-H-H and all team members give high-fives
to each other and the work is underway!
Such an event was only behind the smiles of Guido and
Nancy when in February 2004 they met to discuss what
work means to them. What it means that each one of us
has the need for a place where we are loved
unconditionally while being helped, educated, corrected
and supported to be ourselves. We need a "house" that
will continually reawaken the will to work, to accept
change, to invent. We need a "house" that will prevent
us from becoming alienated and cynical.
LA Habilitation House has been and continues to be
dedicated to this mission.
Guido, Nancy, Stephen, Paul, & Brandon
