We are so pleased and excited to
announce that LAHH has its first office
and training facility. San Gabriel
Avenue is located at the
Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach,
California on the former
Cabrillo/Savannah Naval Housing
site. The Villages at Cabrillo provide
housing and social services to more than
700 veterans and families. Today,
children play outside, men and women
going about their day, a new apartment
complex is being built, and lush trees
and green foliage line the streets. In
this Eden's Garden, there is a little
building, number 43 to be exact, on San
Gabriel Avenue that is the first House
of LAHH! On July 9th Mr. Postlmayr,
Director of Land Development with
Cantwell Anderson, phoned to tell
us that we had been approved to become
part of the Villages at Cabrillo. The
approval process started months before
when we gave a presentation to the other
organizations at Cabrillo sharing with
them our passion and the method we are
using to employ adults with
disabilities. As the possibility of
collaboration grew in that we could
offer training and employment to
disabled-veteran-residents of Cabrillo,
we knew we were home.
Day 1 of new
office before cleaning and
demolition
A 1,200-square foot classroom with
heart-warming kid-art on the walls has
been transformed into our sparkling OS1
training facility, a bright and cheery
conference room, and a beautiful office.
This was only possible through the hard
work, dedication and direction of Mr.
Orsi with his company Alba Construction.
It is all together fitting and proper
that we open this House following Labor
Day. In the United States, Labor Day is
a moment to recognize and commend the
social and economic achievements of the
American Labor Force.

It is a privilege to have the
opportunity to offer employment to
disabled veterans and therefore answer
to the question of what can we do for
our country. Remaining unemployed
creates a culture where alienation and
cynicism become the normalcy. There are
too many unemployed adults in Long Beach
to remain passive. Therefore we have
started. It is through hard work with
the goal of excellence where we realize
life's ideals that express ourselves,
improve our lives, and strengthen our
families and our communities.

It is an honor to be at Cabrillo and
work alongside these men and women who
have sacrificed so much to ensure our
freedom. We pause to acknowledge and
give our prayers to all who are in the
pathway of the hurricanes and working to
ensure safety.
Sincerely,
Guido Piccarolo

We officially kick off the Capital Campaign 2008 for
janitorial equipment, supplies, chemicals, and a truck
for the Companionship of Work Program. It is our desire
to be self supportive through revenues at this time next
year. Therefore our campaign will not be an annual
effort.
We express our deep gratitude to those
individuals who have already contributed $7,750 toward
our $48,000 goal since Monday, August 25th! Many wish to
remain anonymous, but in our hearts your names will have
a place forever. We do not take your generosity for
granted and will use this funding in a responsible and
frugal manner for the employment of our disabled
workforce.
Thank you for taking a step with us in our
mission.
